The BMW M Series is known for offering a great variety of options to drivers who want the perfect balance of style and performance. Up until now the lineup has only been available with a rear-wheel drive platform, as is the case with most sports models. This is why BMW is now considering adding the option of all-wheel drive to the entire M range.

As an automaker that is popular in markets all over the globe, BMW wants to do its best to appeal to as many different climate zones as possible. When looking at the amount of drivers living in wintery environments, it makes sense to include all-wheel drive as an option, as it would make the M Series more versatile with the ability to tackle even the harshest of weather conditions.

In terms of a timeline for when all-wheel drive vehicles will become available, it looks as though it will be a couple of years before BMW brings this option to the table. The plan is to wait until the redesigned versions of the M5 and M6 models are introduced, which is slated to occur sometime in 2016-2017. They would both most likely be the first to offer all-wheel drive.

Even though this plan is still under consideration, we have a feeling here at Rick Hendrick BMW that the automaker is leaning towards making this an option for drivers in the future. Until then, be sure to continue following our blog for the latest news.
