The Stylish, Stealthy, and Agile 2018 BMW 5 Series is Charleston's Favorite Midsize Luxury Car

Is there any midsize more iconic than the BMW 5 Series? It's hard to find one. This luxury sedan has made a name for itself across the world, and recent updates to the newest BMW 5 Series generation only improve on a treasured recipe. For 2018, trim levels include the BMW 530i, 530e iPerformance, 540i, 540d, and M550i--and, for the first time, the BMW 5 Series will be available only as a sedan. The BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo has officially retired.

BMW Signature Luxury

It likely won't be a surprise to Charleston drivers that BMW 5 Series models are some of the most luxurious, state-of-the-art sedans in the world--you won't be taken aback by standard features like a sunroof, leather upholstery, or heated seats. But, you might appreciate additions like premium surround sound, rear-seat entertainment options, and advanced tech features.

Classic and Clean Sedan Styling

The design of the new 2018 BMW 5 Series is one that you can drink in, savor, and enjoy long after its pulled away. Every detail--from the mature and focused face, to the modest character lines, to the squared-off rear end--comes together to create a look of power, precision, and confidence. While we'll miss the Gran Turismo style, the sedan gives you plenty to enjoy.

The 5 Series' Five Powertrain Options

The BMW 5 Series has the most extensive list of engine options in the lineup: three gas engines, one hybrid engine, and one diesel engine--all turbos. 530i models offer 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder; 540i models are good for 335 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque from a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6; M550i models thrill with 446 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque from a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine; new 540d models deliver incredible fuel economy with 261 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque from a 3.0-liter twin-turbo diesel six-cylinder; and 530e iPerformance models satisfy with 248 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque from a hybrid-electric 2.0-liter twin-turbo powertrain. xDrive all-wheel drive is available across the model lineup.

Technology and Safety Features

A standard 10.2-inch touch screen gives you access to all of your media, features, maps, and more through BMW's updated iDrive infotainment system. A rearview camera and full-color Head-Up Display helps you keep close tabs on your surroundings and stay focused on the road ahead. Safety features like rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and frontal collision warning systems put the BMW 5 Series at the front of the pack.
